Snacks For Low Carb Diets
If you're on a low carb diet, snacks don't have to be a thing of the past. In fact, carefully chosen snacks for low carb diets will help to keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day.
But What Can I Have?
There are plenty of bars and shakes for low carb diets, some of which are intended to be a meal replacement, others of which are just snacks. But they aren't all that tasty. Here are some good ideas for snacks for low carb diets:
- Sugar-free Jello
- Pre-cooked chicken slices (these come pre-packaged in the deli meat section. Two popular manufacturers are Oscar Mayer and South Beach Diet (Kraft). Many are seasoned, too, for extra flavor.
- String cheese
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Lean deli meat, such as turkey
- Blueberries and/or strawberries with a little heavy whipped cream (not the low fat or fat-free versions though--they have more carbs) and a sprinkle of slivered almonds.
- Speaking of almonds, go nuts! For a snack, that is.
Not all of these things sound appetizing, we know, but most low carb diets don't offer a lot of variety, which is one reason most people drop out. Simply put, they get bored with carb counting and the limited menu.
Your best bet is to choose a diet that offers you a variety of foods. This doesn't mean you can snack on sugary treats and chips all the time. But you can at least have fresh fruit, veggies and maybe even a smoothie now and then.
