	<title>Low Carb</title>
	<description>
Is a low carb diet what you need?
As we all hear on a regular basis, Americans are getting fatter with each passing year.

This has led to an increase in an array of diseases. Some experts even call the phenomenon and epidemic. Thankfully, many Americans are trying to turn their own situations around for the better. And many of the people who are making an attempt to take off their excess weight are doing do with the help of a low carb diet. But, as with so many other diets, a lot of those people on low carb diets are prone to cheating. Sooner or later, they will all go ahead and deviate from low carb food every so often.

 When you deviate from the requirements of this diet, it can really impede your weight loss progress.
 Knowing that many people fail at their low carb diets for precisely this reason.

Many manufacturers of supplements have come with a pill that claims to block the body's carb absorption. That way, you can cheat and get away with it--a dieter's dream. They are called Carb Blockers and the manufacturers say that taking 1 or 2 pills a day can block the absorption of 400 calories worth of carbs. These supplements are made from bean extract and wheat germ, and the truth is that there were several studies done in the 1980s that showed that the bean extract had no effect on calorie absorption or body weight. Is this low carb craze all that good an idea in the end?

Maybe it's not such a great alternative to simply maintaining a low carb diet.

Now, for some low carb news that's actually good
To counter the studies that were done 20 years ago, the Mayo Clinic recently carried out a study that showed that bean extract and wheat germ did actually carb absorption. The only drawback is that the study showed that these low carb foods only had an effect when they were in higher doses and the doses that did have an effect are not available in any of the commercial blockers, and still no one knows whether or not slowing carb digestion causes weight loss over time. In summary, it is still best to be healthy on a daily basis and to stick to your own low carb recipes when on a diet.
