Bad Carbs: Steer Clear!
The carb craze of recent years cannot be ignored, and whether you are interested in the quagmire of carb counting diets or not, you should take the opportunity to learn about the difference between good carbs and bad carbs and what they can do for us.
What are Bad Carbs?
Bad carbs are tasty but naughty little things because they are processed, high in sugar and low in nutritional value. They include foods such as: white bread, pasta and rice, cakes, cookies and other such pre-packaged foods. Good carbs are foods that are whole and have not been tampered with such as: whole-grain pasta and bread, brown rice, nuts and legumes, and fresh or frozen fruits or vegetables.
When hunger rears it's head we naturally want to grab the easiest, tastiest food at hand, that is often a bad carbs snack or meal. But good carbs can be quick and tasty too!
Why We Should All Limit Our Intake of Bad Carbs
"I don't need to lose weight so I don't need to bother myself with this good carb/bad carb nonsense!"
Bad carbs should be avoided for long term health reasons as well as for the short term. Bad carbs are high in fat and sugar and come no way near to providing us with our recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals. Additionally they don't do us any favors in maintaining a healthy weight.
Good carbs on the other hand, give us balanced energy levels throughout the day and provide us with the necessary nutrients our bodies need to work efficiently.
It's Not Complicated!
Here in the Low Carb Crib, we are fans of eating healthily and avoiding bad carbs whenever possible. We should allow ourselves treats of course or life would be very dull! The odd candy bar or cookie will certainly not be detrimental to our health and should be enjoyed!
