Eating Good Carbs
Like milk, eating good carbs does a body good.
Why Good Carbs are Better than Bad Carbs
To answer the question, "What are good carbs?" you need information about good carbs. Good carbs (also known as complex carbohydrates) are often mistaken for the non-sugary foods that are carbs, like bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. But not all of these foods are good carbs. When you're eating good carbs, you're eating lots of fruits and vegetables, but you're also eating whole grain or whole wheat breads (not white) whole wheat pasta instead of regular and brown or long grain rice instead of white.
A diet of good carbs is better than a strict low carb diet because a low carb diet restricts the amount of carbs you can have so much that you can't even have most fruits and vegetables. Since fruits, vegetables and whole wheat or whole grain foods have a lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals, limiting your intake of these foods is detrimental to your health. In addition, since good carbs usually have a lot of fiber, you feel full longer than you do with simple carbs (also known as bad carbs). Plus, they don't cause your blood sugar to go up and down like a roller coaster, and your body doesn't produce excessive amounts of insulin (which causes weight gain).
The good news is that it's not that hard to make the switch from bad to good carbs. Whole wheat pasta, brown rice and whole wheat bread all taste as good as the regular versions that are full of bad carbs, so you don't even know the difference. This type of diet will only be hard for people who drink a lot of sugary drinks and eat a lot of sugary foods. Giving that stuff up might be tough, but when you start losing weight, it will be worth it.
